The Research Program Coordinator will be responsible for administrative coordination of a study focused on HIV surveillance among most at risk populations in West Africa conducted by faculty associated with the Center for Public Health and Human Rights, Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

The project is supported through the Research to Prevention (R2P) program. R2P is a 5-year HIV prevention project funded by USAID and led by the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health and implemented by faculty throughout the University. It is managed by the Center for Communication Programs (CCP) in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

This study will include the use of respondent-driven sampling for men who have sex with men and female sex workers in Togo and Burkina Faso as well as population size estimates for both populations in these countries.

In addition, this study will include a data triangulation and HIV prevention service mapping exercise for most at risk populations and population size estimates in Cameroon. Qualitative studies will underpin each of the quantitative studies in the three countries.

The position will be based in Baltimore and includes a focus on program management related to the effective and on-time implementation of these research projects in West Africa.

Collaboratively develop research plans and study instruments for submission to the Johns Hopkins University IRB office and local country offices. Monitor IRB applications and manage IRB-related study communication.

Facilitate extensive and regular communication between multiple US-based investigators and international partners in Cameroon, Burkina Faso, and Togo.

Develop project management plans and closely monitor adherence to these plans by closely coordinating multiple faculty members from Johns Hopkins as well as implementing partners and community-based organizations.

Draft and prepare annual and quarterly program reports and work plans. Serve as a liaison with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communications Programs (CCP), USAID, and JHSPH. If the opportunity arises, support preparation of new grant applications and existing grant reports.

Collaborate with financial staff in the review, processing and reconciling of invoices and reimbursements. Collaborate with financial staff at CCP in the preparation and tracking of activity budgets and subcontracts.

Coordinate Johns Hopkins faculty and student study-related travel. Organize project conferences, seminars, and events. Draft content for and regularly update a description of the project on the R2P Website.

Occasionally assist with mentoring/supervision of project interns and students. Coordinate and contribute to manuscript preparation and submission to peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in related discipline. Five years related research or work experience in program management or research required. Comfortable working with sexual minorities and female sex workers in stigmatized environments. Fluent in English. Knowledge of global health. Demonstrated self-management. Potential for occasional overseas travel. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Timely responsiveness to communication in person and by email. Ability to work on multiple tasks with short deadlines.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:  Masters’ degree in Public Health, Business Administration or similar field with demonstrated interest in Public Health. French language.
