Wales set to launch first gender identity campaign
Twelve per cent of young people in Wales identify as being transgender according to a new report published by Wales LGBT Excellence Centre today.
A separate project undertaken by Gender Identity Research and Education Society (GIRES) says that in any school of 1,000 pupils there are likely to be six who will experience transgenderism throughout their lives.
The figures have been revealed on the eve of the first campaign in Wales aimed at supporting people exploring and understanding their gender and gender identity issues. It launches in Cardiff this Saturday (Nov 20), Transgender Day of Remembrance.
A new series of leaflets and posters targeting different areas of life will be available from Saturday, the day set aside to remember all those who have been victims of anti-transgender hatred or prejudice., as the twelfth International Transgender Day of Remembrance will be celebrated around the world.
